Jesse's Fixed Gear Project

I was hesitant at first on the whole fixed gear craze, my brother told me about it and I automatically figured he was just being a trendy Seattlite and didn't think nothing of it. (sorry jas) However after doing some research on Sheldon Brown's site, and conversing with Jimbo and my brother, it's actually a cool concept. I was attracted to the whole idea of simplicity and freedom which makes fixie bikes what they are. Anyway enough blabbering. This is my first project, found an old Raleigh Technium on craigslist for 30$, the Raleigh has an aluminum triangle with steel lugs, front fork, and rear fork. It is very light...after stripping it I weighed the frame itself at 3lbs. treasure: bars (sekae), fork, stem, headset///// trash: wheels, cranks, bb, and saddle.

The original paint was not too bad but I think I'm going to spray can it. It still has the original headbadge as well...pretty nice.

Cut the derailleur of with a dremmel, as well as the cable guide. I had to saw off the oldschool shifters on the frame...still need to do a lot of filing and sanding for it to look clean.

Here is my Sugino BB(bottom bracket)...

..and my Sugino Messenger Zen Cranks 1/8 x 44t x 165mm

Izumi Silver track chain 1/2 x 1/8

Weinmann Deep V Wheelset..

..on Formula/IRO fixed-free hub

DuraAce 15t Cog..Jim said go with an odd number for skidding purposes...so my gear ratio is going to be 44t x 15t..standard BMX style.

Brooks B17 Narrow..just won it on ebay for $67! Had to go black cause somebody already took honey...

Well kiddies da buggah shtay coming along...still need to decide whether to cut the sekae drops bars into bulls..and also my paint scheme..keep changing my mind.peace till next time. KimChongiLL where's your bike at dawg? steady half steppin son!
Pau.

Have you considered using a bamboo frame? It's great for the environment and practically weightless. However, cost is very expensive conpaired to your cheap $30 frame. I don't know about you but I'm hella rich so I have no problem forking up $1000 on a bamboo frame.

No, but I heard the strongest and lightest frames are made from a metal called admantium. These frames are utterly priceless, and the only thing stronger then admantium was manufactored in a lab of scientists. Last I heard this metal was utilized in the making of C. America's shield.
